Is Tebow the Greatest College QB? Can he play in the NFL?

Before Tebow even takes a snap for the Gators in his final season, we'd like to list what has been said about him in the off season. Here are a few quotes from a few guys who might know something.

Kirk Herbstreit: "We had heard a lot about Tim Tebow, but you hear about a lot of guys," Herbstreit said. "He pushed that LSU defensive line and really that entire defense back 5 yards. I'd never seen a stadium react to a player like that. I said to [Chris Fowler], 'It's like he's Roy Hobbs or something.' It's just been a love affair from that point on. I can only imagine what it's going to be like in his last go-around."

Pete Carroll: "Look, I think Tim Tebow is fabulous, but it seems like just yesterday we were having exactly the same discussion about Matt Leinart and along comes Texas and Vince Young," Southern Cal coach Pete Carroll said. "It can all change in the blink of an eye, so I think we have to let it all play out before we evaluate careers."

Mike Lupica: "With all due respect to (Oklahoma QB) Sam Bradford and (Texas QB) Colt McCoy,'' Lupica said, "there have been a lot of Sam Bradfords and Colt McCoys. There has never been anybody … like Tebow.''

Steve Young: "It cracks me up," Young said. "We're horrible at picking quarterbacks. Everybody is. It's a hard thing to pick. So they take the ones that are 6-5, 230 and can throw it through a brick wall. I don't understand. You see so many things in Tim guys in the NFL don't have. He's a rare commodity."...
"Passing in the NFL is delivering the ball at the right time in the right place," he said. "If you can't do that, you'll find your way out of the league. To me, that's the only issue. Everything else is comical to me. 'OK, what don't you see?' "

Joe Montana: "It's so hard to figure out how these people put together the criteria for what it takes to be drafted in the first round," Montana said.

Brent Musburger: "The man is a competitor. He's a winner."

Rick Neuheisel: "Tim Tebow has proven that he is more than a player he's a fantastic athlete, he's a fantastic leader. He's grit with a capital "G".

Bobby Bowden: "I don't know if I've ever seen a better leader ... he's a tremendous player and a tremendous leader. He is a great quarterback that he can run over you physically too. As a leader he would rank up there Wuerffel as a leader...he brings a Bronco Nagurski to the quarterback position. He can still throw the ball, and has finesse about him, even though he's big."

Houston McNutt: "What I love about Tim Tebow, not only does he make the promise — he carries it out and he puts his team on his back," Nutt said at SEC Media Days. "I have the words he spoke to the media, I have that on my desk. I read it to my team once. I have an awesome respect for that."

Lane Kiffin: "I think there are going to be a million articles written after Tim has a great year, and I would think with all the great players, they'll win another national championship and he'll win a Heisman -- That wasn't a joke. I was serious about that. I really believe that -- 'Well, his throwing motion, can he play in the NFL?'

"Some people will pass on him in the draft. He'll prove them all wrong. He'll go and win Super Bowls there."

Nick Saban: “I think he’s one of the most outstanding leaders I’ve ever seen in my coaching career. Certainly played fantastic game against us in the SEC Championship Game last year. I think he might be one of the most outstanding players in our league.”

Steve Spurrier: "Tim Tebow is not only the best quarterback in the league, I think he's the best in the country," Spurrier said. "And what he's doing there, I believe he and Danny Wuerffel will go down in history as two of the best quarterbacks - maybe the two best - to ever play college football. That's how good he is.''

Scot Loeffler: He's going to play quarterback in the NFL; there's no ifs, ands or buts about it.

Craig Howard: "He'll be ready to go," Howard said. "That guy's tougher than nails."

Ryan Stamper: "There is no man like Tim Tebow. With everything he goes through, I do not know how he handles all the pressure and media attention. Tim is a great teammate. He really cares about everyone and makes sure everyone stays on top of everything. He is our leader and we all look up to him."

Brandon Spikes: "Tebow is a warrior."
