As usual Mike Bianchi asks the tough questions. And he even has a poll you can vote on.
To beard or not to beard — that is the question.
Actually the question today is which American idol in sports has the best beard? Is it Tim Tebow or Dale Earnhardt Jr — both of whom have been sporting new facial hair in recent weeks?
As a man who has worn a beard for a good part of my adult life, I appreciate facial stubble as much as anyone. I totally agree with the quote on the home page of Beards.org, which says: “The male beard communicates an heroic image of the independent, sturdy, and resourceful pioneer, ready, willing and able to do manly things.”
OK, so Dale Jr. hasn’t won a race since Haley’s Comet last appeared and it takes Tebow three days to get rid of the football with his elongated delivery, but they are still resourceful pioneers in my book.
And, mark my words, their new beards will make them even more resourceful and more ready, willing and able to do great things. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Dale Jr. actually finishes in the lead lap this week and Tebow benchpresses 740 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine.
His full tome on the "beard" here.
Again, more on the beard as news here and here.
And very clever of Mr. Bianchi to throw in "American Idol" into the title.
American Idol + Tebow + beard = news!
