"The last two starters at UF have won BCS titles."

All Tebow did, for gosh sakes, was play like an NFL pocket passer.
"Trying to be," said Tebow, who suffered bruised ribs during a touchdown run in the preseason opener at Cincinnati. "Just trying to do what I'm asked."
As a passer, Tebow was 5-of-10 for 72 yards, a touchdown and an interception. As a runner, Tebow had zero carries for zero yards and zero TDs.
The last time Tebow played a game in which he didn't run the ball? Maybe never. As a freshman at Florida, he played in four games in which he ran but never passed. But good luck finding the last time Tebow played a game in which he did not have at least one carry.

However, when Denver drafted Tebow, they brought the circus to town. The guy's popularity is ridiculous. His jersey is already one of the top ten most-purchased in the NFL, and you'll find people all around Denver wearing the name and number of their backup quarterback. Reporters from Denver to Gainesville and everywhere in between are going to be watching his every move. The minute Kyle Orton struggles, there will be calls to insert Tebow into the lineup. Tebow himself may be humble and willing to bide his time, but distractions and the outside pressure to play him will be intense. I just don't think that's a good environment for slow and steady quarterback development.

MEYER: Throw the ball! Right! To who?
CONFUSED GUY: [INAUDIBLE]
MEYER: The best match-up! Does that make sense. Should we go over that again. Do you play that video game? I bet you get your ass kicked in that video game. [HOWLING LAUGHTER]
As for Tebow, his bruised ribs appear to be improving.
"As soon as he can go out there and do what we'd like him to do, then he'll be out there," coach Josh McDaniels said of Tebow before practice.
For the second consecutive day, Tebow participated in a pre-practice walk-thru, but this time, he returned to the field with the rest of his teammates in full pads.
"At this point he's doing some things right now to see how sore he is," McDaniels said. "We'll see how it goes."
Tebow was injured in the preseason opener Aug. 15 at Cincinnati. Two days later, he left practice during warmups and has not been seen at a regular practice until today.
Several players remain out with injuries, including running back Know- shon Moreno (hamstring), receiver Brandon Stokley (groin), tight end Daniel Graham (bruised ribs) and quarterback Tim Tebow (bruised ribs).
The Washington Post has a profile story on Craig Fugate, FEMA Administrator and "HUGE Gator fan."9.) Fugate, 51, was born at Jacksonville Naval Air Station. His mother died when he was 11; his father, a Navy veteran, died when he was 16.
7.) He joined the Alachua County Fire Rescue Squad right after high school. Though he attended a community college and the Florida State Fire College, he does not have a college degree.
5.) Fugate is a HUGE Florida Gators fan. His office includes a big Gators blanket, caps, and a Russian doll set painted with the faces and uniforms of Gators players. Aides discovered the dolls when they were with Fugate on an official trip to Russia earlier this year. "I always root for the Gators, the SEC East and the SEC West as a whole. And anybody else from Florida."
Notably absent, however, was rookie quarterback Tim Tebow, who has practiced just once since bruising his ribs in his pro debut Aug. 15. He was at the team’s morning walkthrough but not its afternoon workout.

And in NY!

"Whenever he's ready to go he'll be back out here on the field," McDaniels said of Tebow, one of a handful of injured players. "There is a chance a lot of those guys that aren't out there won't play (Saturday). We're just going to see in the next 24 to 36 hours all of them respond to the treatment they're getting and we'll make the best decision going forward.
"We're not going worry about hurrying anybody back for this game. But if they're healthy and we feel like it's not a risk, then we'll go ahead and play them."

“Golly, times have changed when Tennessee doesn’t want to play North Carolina in football because they’re too good for them,” Spurrier said. “That’s kind of amazing right there.
“We’re not going to bail out from playing North Carolina the way Tennessee did.”
Ryan Lochte flirted with the world record in the 400-meter individual medley before settling for a gold medal and the year's fastest time at the Pan Pacific championships on Thursday night.
The American led all the way and touched in 4 minutes, 7.59 seconds, lowering his own meet record of 4:08.77 set in the morning heats.
Lochte came back later to anchor the Americans to a blowout victory in the 800 free relay, capping a night in which the U.S. won five gold medals, giving them a leading total of 12 through the first two days of the meet.
Michael Phelps, Peter Vanderkaay, Ricky Berens and Lochte won in 7:03:84 -- a whopping 7.17 seconds ahead of second-place Japan. Australia was third.
"I told them before the race to give me the biggest lead possible because I'm going to need it," Lochte said. "I'm lucky I had clean water."
In the IM, Lochte was under the pace of Phelps' world record through 150 meters of the grueling four-stroke race. But he fell off it on the breaststroke leg.
"I just went out fast and tried to hold on for dear life," Lochte said. "I'm just going out there, having fun and racing. Whatever the outcome is, I'll take it."
Rookie quarterback Tim Tebow misses yet another practice with the Denver Broncos. This is the second consecutive practice that Tebow has missed since sustaining an injury to his ribs in Sunday’s exhibition game against the Cincinnati Bengals. While the reason he hasn’t been participating in practices and may not play in the home opener this weekend, the Denver Broncos are not releasing any type of official information relevant to Tebow’s issue; however, it’s safe for us all to assume it’s from the hit in Sunday’s exhibition game.
Drafted out of Florida, Tebow did participate in Tuesday’s two-a-days but didn’t fully participate in practice. Then, Tebow attempted to take field for practice on Wednesday but after doing a short walk around, he spoke with the team’s trainers and soon after went off the field to not return. Thursday’s practice, which Tebow did not participate in, was the last practice of the Bronco’s training camp.
Since he didn’t participate in two straight practices with the Denver Broncos, he may be ineligible to participate in the preseason home opener for the Broncos against the Detroit Lions.
However, he may out longer than just the preseason home opener if he doesn’t change his running style. Various media sources say that if he doesn’t change his running style, the NFL will take him for what he has and it won’t end on a good note for Tebow. What do you think about Tebow’s future success as a quarterback – do you think he has what it takes or do you think he needs to own up and change his running style a bit to keep from sustaining injury after injury this season?
Tim Tebow is not the only one missing practice with the Denver Broncos though as wide receiver Brand Stokely, cornerback Champ Bailey, as well as tight end Daniel Graham also missed practiced Thursday.
Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin collapsed at the team’s Winter Park facility Thursday while watching practice and was loaded into an ambulance.
Harvin, who has suffered from severe migraines, was not on the field for the start of practice. He was seen talking to head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman outside the locker room at Winter Park and then jogged onto the field to watch practice. A few minutes later, Harvin vomited and then fell to the ground.
He came out for special teams practice and started having problems when he looked into sky catching punt.
Vikings coach Brad Childress on Harvin's migraines: "That one hit and it hit hard. Always scary for all of our guys when you see teammates struggling."
Childress added that Harvin was "trembling" as he lay on the field. He said this is second time Harvin has been taken to hospital because of migraines.
Practice continued as the team’s medical staff tended to him. After about 10 minutes, a police car and ambulance from the Hennepin County Medical Center arrived and EMTs tended to Harvin as practice stopped and players watched.

"He has a warrior's mentality," Broncos safety Brian Dawkins said. "Which is good, but at the same time, being able to decipher when and when not to. Hopefully he won't have to learn the hard, hard way."And what do Tebow's teammates think about his first TD and hit?
"That's what you like about him," Broncos linebacker Mario Haggan said. "There was no choice to be made — you go for pay dirt."
Touchdown. Bruised ribs from Hodge's slam, the painful impact of which grew worse Wednesday.
And the Gainesville Sun's own Pat Dooley was on hand for Denver's practice yesterday. His report here.

At practice Wednesday afternoon, Broncos trainer Steve “Greek” Antonopulos came up to Tim Tebow and started consulting with the rookie quarterback.
After their talk, Tebow seemed to be holding his left ribs or left abdomen and jogged off to the locker room. He has yet to return. Tebow took several hits in the preseason game Sunday at Cincinnati. He was also involved in a violent collision at the goal line while diving for a touchdown on the game’s final play.
Tebow has has been wearing a flak-jacket padding device around his ribs this week. He didn’t participate in post-practice conditioning sprints Tuesday. This is significant as he has won every post-practice conditioning sprint among offensive players in training camp (Air Force’s Ben Garland) wins every defensive sprint).
It's only week one, sure, but the numbers don't lie. Tebow had the best game of all rookie QBs in week one.
For all those Tim Tebow bashers out there, and there are a lot of you for reasons still inexplicable, this news flash: The former University of Florida star and college football Golden Boy, despite his well-documented mechanical deficiencies, still was the best rookie quarterback on the field leaguewide during the inaugural weekend of preseason play.
At least from a numbers and composure standpoint.
The Broncos' first-round draft pick, and latter day Friar Tuck lookalike (we'll assume that, unless you live in a cave, you caught a glimpse of the hazing-induced coif that has since been clipped), completed 8 of 13 passes for 105 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 87.0 against Cincinnati. He also rushed twice for 10 yards, including a 7-yard touchdown run.

The realities of Putnam City West are made evident in the locker room, where its athletes can find both football equipment and their next meal.
