Book Tour Q&A

Below is an excerpt of the Q&A Tebow had with the Miami Herald for his Coral Gables book signing.  Full story here.

How has the tour affected your routine?
It’s a little different than most people think. They think you’re busy all day. But really you have a book signing for two hours. I still train all day and work out.

Why did you write this book?
So many other people have written stuff about me, and all those stories aren’t accurate. I wanted to set the record straight. But the main reason was somehow to encourage and inspire or put a smile on someone’s face, whether that’s a kid trying to follow his dream or an adult who needs a role model for his kid. To have an impact on people’s lives in a good way.

Why is being a role model so important?
It’s the most important thing to me, period. If I just play football and just try to win games and championships, if that’s all I do, then at the end of my life it’s not going to mean very much. It’s just a game. … I love it, but if you take the platform, and you can influence someone’s life and inspire them to go after their dream, then what you’re doing is worth it. You’re having a life of success and meaning.

What was it like returning to Gainesville for a signing?
It was pretty crazy, very rowdy. A lot of people showed up; they were sleeping on floors and in shopping carts. I signed the whole time, and when the time was up they told me, ‘There are another 600 people waiting,’ and I was like, ‘Well, we’re gonna be here awhile then.’ But it was cool.

Danny Wuerffel Hospitalized

On Wednesday Matt Hinton reported that Danny Wuerffel had been hospitalized with a rare autoimmune disorder, Guillain-BarrĂ© syndrome, which can cause paralysis if untreated.  Below is the email prayer request sent out by Danny via Desire Street Ministries.

A prayer request on my end. I caught a stomach bug last week on our Desire Ministry retreat in Colorado and my body got screwed up fighting the virus. I didn't recover well. I started losing feeling in my legs, and then while in Montgomery this week visiting our ministry partner, Bryan Kelly, I started losing feeling and strength in my hands and arms. After a series of crazy tests all day Friday (it was actually a blessing to have been in Montgomery), I was diagnosed with Guillian Barre Syndrome a pretty dangerous type of temporary but progressive paralysis. It was my immune system overreaction to the stomach bug that started attacking my nervous system. Fortunately, it was diagnosed early and I'm on a week-long treatment that should make everything be ok.
Crazy stuff. I'm doing well and very thankful to be getting good help. I'll be in Montgomery at least until next Tuesday. Please pray for a full and hopefully quick recovery.

The Gainesville Sun has reported that he is doing well at a private facility.
Spokeswoman Sara Pace said Wuerffel initially was hospitalized in Montgomery, Ala., and later transferred to Birmingham, but is now receiving outpatient treatment at a location that the family would like to remain private. He expects to make a full recovery.
The syndrome occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks parts of the nervous system.
“Fortunately, an early diagnosis identified the disease, permitting swift medical treatment,” DSM board chair Luder Whitlock said. “Consequently, his GBS specialist expects a full recovery.

Please continue to pray for Danny, and if you'd like to know more about his ministry work and for updates on his progress, please go to www.desirestreet.org.

Tebow in the No Spin Zone

If any one doubts, or does not understand Tebow's appeal, then consider how diverse his media campaign for Through My Eyes has been.  From Jon Stewart and the Daily Show to CBN and O'Reilly's Show.  In each he was aware of his audience and was self-deprecating, enthusiastic, and/or reserved as the occasion required.  His career, both on the field and off, will probably only become more and more interesting with time.

Tebow had a headache before 09 LSU game

Have you gotten your copy of Through My Eyes yet?

If not, here's an interesting excerpt (via OGGOA).

“I’m not going to let you play,” [Urban Meyer] said. He had tears in his eyes—he knew how much it meant to me.
“I have to play,” I responded.
He cut me off. “I keep asking myself, if you were Nate, would I let you play? I keep saying, ‘No.’ I can’t let you play.” He really wanted to win, but he was unwilling to take a chance with my health.
“But they cleared me, and I haven’t had headaches in days,” I countered. “There’s no reason for me not to play.”
“No headaches?”
“No, Coach. No headaches.” A headache had been starting to set in, but for all I know, it was from stress or a migraine, not the concussion. […]
I was praying in the locker room that the headache, which had been getting worse and worse, would simply go away. It didn’t. I could barely see by the end of the pregame warm-ups, it was hurting so badly.

What do you think?  Should Tim have played?

And watch for Tim on the Daily Show tonight with Jon Stewart, 11pm ET on Comedy Central.

Tebow on CBN

CBN Sports’ Shawn Brown recently sat down with Tim Tebow to talk football, faith, and being a champion in both worlds.
